This workshop aims to promote open dialogue on current methods of grammar teaching, with special emphasis on experiences from Brazil and the UK. Organized through a partnership between researchers from various institutions in Brazil and the UK, the event seeks to unite educators and linguists who are interested in exploring new, critical, and inclusive ways to approach language, specifically grammar teaching and learning.
The sessions will explore how linguistic research can enhance classroom practice in several key areas relevant to teaching and learning grammar, including:
- Core linguistic areas such as semantics (the study and making of meaning), syntax and morphology (the structure of sentences and words)
- Multimodality
- Interaction
- Multilingualism
- Linguistic variation and language change
- Grammar in context
- Grammar from the point of view of various theoretical approaches, the links between linguistic theory and educational practice
- Decolonial approaches to teaching grammar
This workshop will be of interest to language teachers in primary, secondary and higher education, researchers, and other language practitioners, as well as students with an interest in teaching languages and/or linguistics.
Please register via this form by 26 November 2025. If you have any queries, please contact the organisers Dr Isis Barros or Prof. Sascha Stollhans.
